Maiden Castle, Dorchester, Dorset

Dorset's answer to the pyramids, this massive construction always defies my imagination. I try to picture the movement of titanic quantities of chalk and flints with deer antlers and baskets as tools, and formed into these massive ramparts and ditches. Providing defence for centuries for Iron Age folk, the settlement proved no protection against the Roman legions.
